What is the best way to thaw MSD reagents that have been shipped frozen?

For diluents (use at room temperature):

Option 1:

  1. The day before use, remove diluent bottle from the freezer and store overnight at 2–8°C.
  2. Before using, submerge the bottle in a room temperature (23°C) water bath until it reaches room temperature (15–60 min, depending on size). Keep the cap of the diluent bottle above water level.

Option 2:

  1. Remove diluent bottle from the freezer and submerge in a room temperature (23°C) water bath until no visible ice crystals remain. Keep the cap of the diluent bottle above water level.
  2. After diluent is visibly thawed, keep the bottle in the water bath until it reaches room temperature (15–60 min, depending on size).

For calibrators, lysates, and controls:
  • Remove reagent from the freezer and place on wet ice until thawed.
  • During thawing, mix vial contents by tapping or inversion.
  • For small volumes, centrifuge the vial at moderate speed to pool material in the bottom of the vial.
  • Keep on ice and use without delay.
